I went to an orthodontist years ago when I was thinking about getting braces. They told me that it would take about 2 to 3 years to complete my treatment. That’s one of the reasons why I never had it done.
Lately I’ve been thinking about getting Invisalign. Partly because I’m moving up in my company and I wish my teeth looked better when I talk to other people. How long would I wear Invisalign compared to braces? Will the treatment be faster? Shorter? The same?
Thanks for your help,
Hi Mike – it’s great to hear from you!
You definitely are not alone when it comes to people avoiding orthodontic treatment due to the time commitment. A lot people inquire about the length of time they would have to wear Invisalign compared to Braces.
Since you’ve waited to straighten your smile, there are a lot more options available for you to choose from. Not only that, but those options have become more advanced and efficient in the way that they straighten your teeth.
How Long Will Invisalign Take
The first thing a lot of my patients inquire about is how long will Invisalign take to straighten their teeth. In most cases, my patients are finished with their treatment anywhere between 12 to 24 months.
Generally, your Invisalign treatment will last about as long as it would if you were to wear traditional braces. If the standard orthodontics takes 12-18 months, then Invisalign would probably take about 12-18 months as well.
Sometimes Invisalign works even more quickly than braces. It’s now possible for you to straighten your teeth faster with Invisalign than it is other types of methods. It just depends on what we’re trying to improve and what type of results you really want.
Straighten Your Teeth in Less Time with Invisalign
Just because your dentist told you that it would take three years to straighten your teeth doesn’t necessarily still mean that is the case. Invisalign technology has experienced dramatic advancements over the past decade, allowing people like you to shorten the length of time that you need to wear braces.
What might have meant wearing braces for 24 months 10 years ago may now only take 12 to 18 months. The way we move your teeth is done differently with Invisalign. I can even make adjustments to your alignment tray series to help you see results quicker. Especially if you’re just wanting to straighten your front teeth.
When you come by for a consultation, I can actually show you on our 3D computer software how your teeth will move, and how long it should take to achieve those movements.
Then you can decide whether or not that is a time frame that you’re comfortable with. Invisalign is so precise, that we can typically provide an extremely accurate estimate as to the length of your entire treatment. Plus, you get to see a virtual “before and after” of your treatment before it is ever started.
You will probably feel like your treatment goes by much quicker than it would if you were to wear metal braces. For one, you only need to stop by my office every 6 weeks or so for a quick check and to pick up your next few sets of alignment trays.
You spend less time in the dental chair and more time taking care of your busy work schedule.
Mike, I hope I have answered your question concerning the length of time you would be wearing Invisalign compared to braces. Investing a modest amount of time in Invisalign can really help you enjoy healthier, straighter teeth and a renewed self-confidence.
I really think we can help you straighten your teeth more quickly with Invisalign now, than it would have been for you to do it years ago the conventional way. A lot of my patients complete their treatment in about one year.
Since the aligners are made of clear acrylic materials, you can wear them to work or during conferences without anyone else noticing them. You should feel relatively comfortable talking with Invisalign, and the aligners only need to be removed during meals (or for brushing and flossing.)
I see several people just like yourself, who are wanting to invest in a confident smile that they won’t be embarrassed about showing in their professional life.
I would love to invite you to call my office to schedule a quick consultation. We can sit down together to look over your teeth and pinpoint exactly what it is you want to change about your smile.
Then we can take a series of digital images to create a 3D image of your smile, and plan how quickly it would be to straighten your smile completely. Call my office today so that we can go ahead and get started!
