I grew up in Ottawa and still live here. I’m married and we have a family of fur babies – our dogs, Amarouq and Teak. Growing up, I was always shy about smiling; showing my teeth and what not.

I started wearing Invisalign braces when I was 34. There’s a short period of adjustment for maybe the first day but found them really easy to wear.

During the first day of each new tray, when I would put my Invisalign braces in, there might be a little discomfort but I wouldn’t call it pain. I felt a little tenderness but it quickly went away. Perhaps, that tenderness lasted for a day but I supposed that was just because there was a little bit more tension on specific areas.

Also, the oral hygiene is lot easier than having metal braces. For me, specially being in the dental profession, I realized how important it is to brush and floss like I normally would. It was nice that I could just remove my Invisalign braces.

Another benefit is that you can eat whatever you want without feeling discomfort. With metal braces, you’re not able to eat a lot of foods because they can get stuck in the brackets. The Invisalign aesthetic part was appealing for me too. I was getting married and I was going to have to have my wedding pictures taken while I was still completing my treatment. People didn’t even know that I was wearing braces. I mean at thirty-four, I didn’t want to have the metal braces that people could see.

Invisalign sounded like a perfect fit for me. The ease of removing them, the oral hygiene is a lot easier than having braces and you can eat whatever you want without feeling discomfort.

People were noticing my teeth, my smile. It is completely worth going through the eleven months that it takes to wear Invisalign. In my case it was a little bit longer as it took me probably a year and a half to complete it. But, if your someone like me, self-conscious about their smile, this is what it takes to achieve that perfect smile that you want. Plus, it’s a bonus that people wouldn’t even notice your wearing them.
